Tennis has seen its share of legendary players, and Roger Federer sits among the highest achievers in the sport. Federer started playing tennis when he was eight years old and played his first ATP Tour in 1998, going on to win numerous Grand Slam events

To complement his professional life, he started the Roger Federer Foundation, where he helps make education accessible for low-income children, in the belief that education is the key to enabling children to shape their own futures. Currently, there are some 400,000 children enrolled in different programs. In southern Africa, the focus is on early learning. The foundation supports building schoolhouses, establishing kindergarten programs, and facilitating the training of teachers. Also active in Federer’s native Switzerland, the focus there is on extra-curricular activities for children.

The foundation operates under the parameters set by the Swiss Foundation Code. Its work is funded in part by contributing partners, such as Rolex, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and the Educate a Child Foundation.
